CJI Protocol: Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramakrishna (BR) Gawai has expressed displeasure over the omission in the protocol during his first visit to Maharashtra after being promoted to the top post. In an honor ceremony organized by Maharashtra and Goa Bar Council, Gawai pointed out the state’s Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) or Municipal Commissioner to not be present to welcome him. He emphasized that all the three pillars of democracy are similar and they should show respect for each other. CJI BR Gawai said, “If the Chief Secretary of the state, DGP or Mumbai Police Commissioner does not want to come there when the CJI, who is from Maharashtra, has reached there for the first time. It is up to them to think about whether it is right or not.” He said that this is a question of respect for the judiciary by other organs of the institution. He also said that he is not insisting on following the protocol. Gawai said, “When the head of an institution or organization is coming in the state for the first time. Especially when he is also from the same state. BR Gavai said, “If someone else had been in my place, the provisions of Article 142 would have been considered.” Article 142 of the Indian Constitution gives the Supreme Court the power to pass the order or decree required to do full justice in any case pending before it. During their visit, traffic of the road is cleared and adequate security personnel are deployed under their protection.
