For Rajma:
Rajma (Lal): 1 Cup
Water: 3–4 cups
Onion (finely chopped): 2
Tomatoes (finely chopped or puree): 2
Ginger-garlic paste: 1 tbsp
Green Chilli: 1–2
Oil or Ghee: 2 tablespoons
Cumin: 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander powder: 1 tsp
Red chili powder: 1 tsp (as per taste)
Garam Masala: 1/2 teaspoon
Salt: as per taste
Green Coriander (for decoration): 1 tbsp
For rice:
Basmati Rice: 1 Cup
Water: 2 cups
Salt: as per taste
A little ghee
Method of preparation:
1. Boil Rajma:
First of all, soak Rajma in water overnight (at least 6–8 hours). Then the next day add Rajma and 3–4 cup of water soaked in the pressure cooker. Add a little salt to it and cook till 4-5 whistles. Rajma should cook well, so that it becomes soft and mash it easily.
2. Preparation of Masala:
Now heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let it fall. Then add finely chopped onion and fry till it becomes golden. After this, add ginger-garlic paste and green chili. Fry for a few minutes until the raw smell goes.
Now add tomato puree to it and add spices like turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder and fry well. When the spices start releasing oil, then add boiled Rajma (including water).
3. Gravy cooking:
Now let Rajma cook in spices for 15–20 minutes on medium heat. If you want to thicken the gravy, then mash some Rajma with a spoon and mix. Finally add garam masala and green coriander.
4. Rice making:
Wash and soak the rice for 15 minutes. Then add water and salt to a vessel and cook rice. If you want, you can add some ghee so that rice can be blossomed.
