New Delhi. The Congress said on Sunday that it is not stopping anyone from being part of the diplomatic delegation to be sent to various countries after ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the leaders whose names have been included at the behest of the government should hear the voice of their conscience and contribute to this process. Congress General Secretary (Communications in -charge) Jairam Ramesh accused the government of politicizing the process of selection of leaders for delegations and having ‘malicious intentions’, as only one of the four leaders nominated by the party has been given a place in the delegation. The party said on Saturday that the government had asked him to name four leaders for the all -party delegation to be sent abroad to clarify India -backed terrorism. The Congress nominated Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain and Amarinder Singh Raja Wading. According to the party, only Sharma has been included in seven delegations visiting different countries. Four Congress leaders – Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari, Amar Singh and Salman Khurshid have been included in the delegation by the government which was not part of the list sent by the party. Ramesh told PTI, “Out of the four names we sent, he included only one leader. Four other names added to the government, senior MPs and our party leaders, they should hear the voice of their conscience and contribute to the delegation.” He said, “The national interest for the Congress is paramount. This matter should not be given much and more politicization in this regard is not appropriate.” Ramesh said, “The Congress has not stopped anyone and all our MPs involved in the delegation will go there and contribute.” The Congress had expressed displeasure over Tharoor’s selection to lead the delegation and accused the government of doing politics with a ‘mischievous’ mentality. Referring to Congress leader Salman Khurshid, Ramesh said that the four names added by the government include a former foreign minister who has experience of foreign policy. The Congress said only one of the four leaders nominated by him for the diplomatic delegation said that it proves the ‘complete loyalty’ of the Narendra Modi government and reflects the ‘petty politics’ done by him on serious national issues. The opposition party, however, said that the four prominent Congress MPs/leaders who were included at the behest of the Modi government would go with the delegation. The backdrop of ‘Operation Sindoor’ will include 51 political leaders, MPs and former ministers in the seven delegations going to the world capitals to put forward India’s resolve to deal with terrorism. Congress General Secretary Ramesh said in a statement on Saturday night, “On the morning of May 16, the Modi government sought the names of four MPs/leaders from the Congress party, who were to be included in the delegations being sent abroad to put India’s situation on Pakistan sponsored terrorism. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on behalf of the Congress Parliamentary Party had sent four names to the Parliamentary work minister till 12 noon.” He had said, “Late tonight (17 May) the official list of all these delegations has been released. It is extremely regrettable that only one of the four names suggested by the Congress leadership has been included.”
