Justice Gawai reached Maharashtra for the first time by becoming CJI

Justice BR Gawai arrived on his first visit to Maharashtra on Sunday after becoming the Chief Justice of India (CJI). However, during this time he expressed displeasure over the absence of the top officials of the state. He said on Sunday that none of the state’s Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and Mumbai Police Commissioner came to welcome him, which is a matter of thinking. CJI Gawai said this at the honor ceremony organized by Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. He was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India on 14 May and was his first visit to Mumbai. Speaking at the ‘Protocol’ case of ‘Protocol’, ‘Bar Council celebrations, CJI Gavai said that he does not want to insist on small things like protocol lapse, but would definitely like to say that the three pillars of democracy are legislature, executive and judiciary are equal and they should respect each other. He said, “When a person who belongs to here, has come to the state for the first time as the Chief Justice and if the Chief Secretary of the state, DGP or Mumbai Police Commissioner does not want to come, then he should think himself whether it was right or not.” Gawai also said that he is saying this so that people are aware of it, even if they do not consider it a big thing. Then he said in a little funny manner, “If I had someone else in my place, Article 142 of the Constitution would have been used.” Article 142 gives the Supreme Court the power to give necessary orders to give full justice in any case and ensure the presence of a person if needed. Then all the officers arrived… Hours after CJI Gawai’s statement, when he reached Chaityabhoomi in Dadar in Mumbai and paid tribute to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunk, DGP Rashmi Shukla, and Mumbai Police Commissioner Devendra Bharti were present there. This tour is considered important in terms of social justice and honor of democratic institutions. CJI Gawai also made it clear that he is not personally angry with anyone, but it is a matter of theory and respect.
