‘India’s first manned space flight can begin in 2027’, PM Modi said

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) that India’s first manned space flight highlights the growing aspirations of the country, which can be launched in early 2027. In his recorded message for the global space exploration conference, Modi said that there is a field of empowerment along with space exploration for India. He also counted plans to set up Indian space stations by 2035 and send astronauts to the moon by 2040. ‘India will soon launch a special G20 satellite’ in a message recorded on Tuesday, PM Modi said that India’s space journey is not to compete with others. This is to reach the height simultaneously. The Prime Minister said that India will soon launch a special G20 satellite which will be a gift for the global South. V. Narayanan, president of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), said that the first unmanned mission of the Gaganyaan project is expected to be launched later this year. Two more similar missions will be launched in 2026. He informed that the first manned mission will be launched in the first quarter of 2027. Before sending astronauts to the lower orbit of the Earth, ISRO will send a robot vyommitra under the unmanned mission. PM Modi had done the Gaganyaan project in 2018, the Gaganyaan project announced the Gaganyaan project during the Independence Day celebrations in 2018 and set a target of 2022 for India’s first manned space flight. This project has been delayed many times, one of the reasons is also Kovid-19. The chairman of ISRO said that this is a complex process.
