Fund of Banke Bihari temple will be used for Vrindavan Corridor, Supreme Corps on Land Acquisition

Supreme Court on Vrindavan Corridor: The Supreme Court has approved the use of the fund of Banke Bihari temple in the acquisition of land to build a corridor in Vrindavan. Following the order of the Supreme Court, the Uttar Pradesh government will be able to use Rs 500 crore from the fund of the temple for land acquisition for the corridor. However, the Supreme Court has also laid a condition regarding this. The Supreme Court has placed a condition that the land acquired for the corridor should be registered in the name of the deity or temple trust. Allahabad High Court had imposed a ban on the use of funds. On November 8, 2023, the Allahabad High Court had put a brake on the Uttar Pradesh government’s corridor scheme. The High Court had prevented the Uttar Pradesh government from using temple funds to acquire the land of Vrindavan Corridor. However, the Supreme Court has now changed this order and has allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to use the funds of Banke Bihari temple. What did the Supreme Court say about the case? A bench of Supreme Court Justices Bella M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma said that the Banke Bihari Ji Trust has got a fixed deposit in the bank in the name of the deity and the temple. The government can take money out of this and buy land to build a corridor near the temple. The registry of this land should be done in the name of the deity. Devotees died in a stampede in the temple in 2022. It is noteworthy that in August 2022 there was a stampede in the Banke Bihari temple. Due to this, some devotees were killed and many were injured. After this incident, it came into the discussion that there is not enough space for the management of the crowd on the temple. The Supreme Court also took this matter into consideration during the hearing.
