ECI Resolves Identical Voter ID Number Issue: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a big step on the matter of voter ID card ie voter card. According to the Central Election Commission, the problem of similar EPIC numbers that have been going on for 20 years have been solved. The issue of similar numbers in the voter ID card was also a big political issue. Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders had also questioned the functioning of the Election Commission regarding this. The Database of more than 99 crore voters at 10.50 polling stations has been investigated by the Election Commission, to solve this problem that has been going on for the last 20 years, the Chief Election Officer of all 36 states and union territories and ERO of all 4123 assembly constituencies of India were tested in all 10.50 lakh polling stations in all 10.50 lakh polling stations. There are about 1,000 voters per polling station on average. The number of similar EPIC numbers found was very low, that is, on average, such a disturbance was found in the identity card of about 1 voter in 4 polling stations. During the local investigation issued to voters with equal voter card numbers, it was found that the holders of similar voter cards/ EPIC numbers were voters in different assembly constituencies and polling stations. All such voters have been issued new EPIC cards i.e. voter ID cards with new numbers. There is no possibility of disturbance even if the voter work is the same, every voter’s name is in the voter list of the polling station where he is a resident. Due to the same number of voter ID card (EPIC), no such person can vote at any other polling station. It is also clear that even if there was a similar number on the voter ID card, there could not have been any disturbance in the voting and neither had any effect on the election result. After 2005, there was a disturbance with the same numbers, it is believed that the same number of uniform numbers in the voter ID card had started since 2005, when different states/union territories were using different alphanumeric series for the assembly constituency in a decentralized manner. After the delimitation of the constituencies, these series had to be changed again in 2008. During this time, some assembly constituencies accidentally continued to use the old series or due to typographic mistakes, they issued voter cards using a series already allotted to some other constituencies.
