Leave Barfi, forget Laddu! ‘Karachi Halwa’ is available at this shop of Dehradun ….

Date:

Karachi halwa: There are many shops of sweets in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, but a special sweets shop in Rajpur area is drawing people’s attention. The “Karachi Halwa” found here is not only wonderful in taste, but its specialty is that neither it is like a traditional halwa nor does it need to go to Karachi.

What is Karachi Pudding?
Karachi Halwa is prepared from Arrot, Chinese and Pure Desi Ghee. It is usually found in orange, red or green color and the scent of cardamom and ghee is visible in it. Its texture is a slightly chewing, like rubber, but the taste is very special. For those who do not like much sweet, this pudding is a great option.

This Karachi Halwa is available at the rate of Rs 240 per kg at Aarti Sweet Shop located near Rajpur bus stand. This shop is very famous among the amateurs of sweets in the city.

History and specialty of shop
Nikhil Rawat, the owner of Aarti Sweet Shop, told Local 18 that this shop was started by his father and Tauji together. This shop of Rawat family, originally from Pauri, has been running in Dehradun for the last several years. Apart from sweets, snacks like samosas and sugar are also made here. Almost every traditional dessert like Sonpapadi, Rasgulla, Barfi, Laddus, Kalakand and Peda is available in the shop, but the most special is Karachi Halwa, which pulls people again and again.

It takes hard work to make
Nikhil Rawat says that it is not easy to make Karachi Halwa. The most effort in this is to dissolve the arrowroot properly, so that it comes in the right texture. This is the reason why its taste is completely different from the rest of the sweets.

Why is it called Bombay Pudding?
Karachi Halwa is also known as Bombay Halwa. It is believed that this dessert was brought from Karachi to Bombay at the time of India-Pakistan partition and from here it was also named Bombay Halwa.
If you also want to taste Karachi Halwa, then go from Ghantaghar in Dehradun towards Rajpur and enjoy this special dessert from Aarti Sweet Shop at the rate of Rs 240 a kg.
